MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The School Social Worker is an integral part of the team who ensures that every student receives the support needed to overcome hurdles that may negatively impact his/her success and social-emotional well-being.  The School Social Worker works with our entire community, including faculty, staff, students, families, and administrators, to ensure that every student has the support and tools necessary to be successful. Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide individual and small group counseling to address personal, interpersonal, emotional, and academic challenges
  • Create a proactive counseling program that prevents crises and utilizes innovative intervention strategies to support academic success
  • Provide crisis counseling to students and families as needed
  • Use evidence-based practices to effectively develop short-term treatment and intervention plans for students
  • Work closely with students, faculty, staff, and families to ensure they understand the needs of their student/child and how to implement appropriate accommodations, including behavior intervention plans.
  • Cultivate relationships with community partners that can help support the students, the families, and the school
  • Accurately complete all paperwork related to provided services in a timely manner as mandated by New York State and school policies and procedures.

10-Month Position

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a college liaison between Broome-Tioga BOCES and SUNY Broome for students in the P-TECH Program
  • Provide student support to students in 12th grade and beyond enrolled in P-TECH while they are in attendance at SUNY Broome
  • Support student scheduling at SUNY Broome and ensure they are on track for their degree program
  • Communicate needs of P-TECH to SUNY Broome and vice versa to ensure that students have all materials and support in place to find success at the college level
  • Assist in organizing and executing events for P-TECH students and staff
  • Utilize BrightSpace and all SU NY Broome and BOC ES systems to assist students in their final 3 years of school
  • Assist students in building their professional networks and preparing for and obtaining internships in the summer months
  • Collaborate with P-TECH school counselor on campus at BOCES, at Binghamton CSD, and administrative team for events, student support, district support, recruitment, and ongoing needs
  • Work with districts and BOCES team to navigate logistics for college-age students enrolled in P-TECH
  • Stay up-to-date on all required paperwork and reporting
     
$54,042 Minimum + DOE per BTA Contract
